Troubleshooting a Workstation runVM failed unrecoverable error (1005934)

Symptoms

  • You cannot start a virtual machine in Workstation.
  • Trying to power on a virtual machine in Workstation generates the error:

VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0)VCPU 0 RunVM failed: The operation completed successfully.
  • You may see these errors immediately or some time after power on:

    • MONITOR PANIC: vcpu-0:NOT_IMPLEMENTED vmcore/vmm/cpu/priv.c:567
    • MONITOR PANIC: vcpu-1:NOT_IMPLEMENTED vmcore/vmm/cpu/priv.c:1053

Resolution

This issue can occur when you are running VMware Workstation and another organization's virtualization software at the same time. Running Workstation and another organization's virtualization software simultaneously on the same system is not supported.

VMware recommends uninstalling the other virtualization software to allow Workstation to operate without errors.

Update History

08/23/2012 - Added Workstation 9.x to Products. 09/05/2013 - Added Workstation 10.x (Windows) to Product Versions.
