Summaries and Symptoms

Issues fixed in this patch (and their relevant symptoms, if applicable) include:

• Add VSS quiescing support. When creating quiesced snapshot of Windows Server 2003 guests, both filesystem and application quiescing are supported. With Windows Server 2008 guests, only filesystem quiescing is supported.
  
  
• vcbSnapAll fails to display a relevant error message when the incorrect login credentials are provided for the ESX Server host.
  
  This patch fixes an issue where vcbSnapAll fails with an irrelevant message similar to the following when incorrect login credentials are provided for the ESX Server host:
  
  Could not retrieve a list of virtual machines to back up with the search criteria (name:<VMname>)
  
  After applying this patch, a suitable message similar to the following is displayed:
  
  Other error encountered: Host address lookup for server <name> failed: Unknown host Could not retrieve a list of virtual machines to back up.
  
  
  
• When the destination folder does not exist, vcbSnapAll should fail immediately with ... not a writeable directory.

See the VMware Update Manager Administration Guide for instructions on using Update Manager to download and install patches to automatically update ESX Server 3.5 hosts.

To update ESX Server 3.5 hosts when not using Update Manager, download the most recent patch bundle from http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/vi3_patches_35.html and install the bundle using esxupdate from the command line of the host. For more information, see the ESX Server 3 Patch Management Guide.
