Troubleshooting an ESX host that cannot connect to Lab Manager Server

Symptoms

  • You cannot connect your ESX host to the Lab Manager Server
  • You see the error:

    Missing License Key

Purpose

This article guides you through troubleshooting steps to identify why an ESX host cannot connect to the Lab Manager Server. In addition, it provides resolution steps to eliminate causes leading to this issue.

Resolution

The below listed steps will provide instructions or links to documents to eliminate possible causes and take corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Do not skip any step.
  1. Ensure Lab Manager Server and Agent licenses are activated together into one license file on the license portal. For more information, see Activating Lab Manager Licenses (1005842).
  2. Ensure your ESX host is not in the evaluation mode. For more information, see Disabling VMware ESX 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5 Evaluations (1005623) .
