Solution

Summaries and Symptoms

Issues fixed in this patch (and their relevant symptoms, if applicable) include:

  • On ESX hosts with more than one CD-ROM device, rescanning storage (vmhba) causes the host to crash with a purple screen that displays CosPanic:4781: COS Error: Oops.

  • The root disk goes offline and the ESX service console becomes read-only during long cluster failovers on storage arrays. This issue applies to both Active/Active and Active/Passive storage arrays.

  • Includes a fix to better support Broadcom RemotePHY backplanes on Dell PowerEdge blade servers.

Deployment Considerations

ESX350-200808402-BG requires the installation of ESX 3.5 U2 refresh bundle ESX350-200808201-UG, irrespective of whether the ESX 3.5 U2 hot fix bundle ESX350-200806812-BG is currently installed or not. Make sure that ESX 3.5 U2 refresh bundle ESX350-200808201-UG is available in the local depot before installation.

If you are using esxupdate , you must install 2nd-level dependencies before installing this patch. For details, see Patch Installation Using esxupdate Fails Because 2nd-Level Dependency Is Not Installed (KB 1007060).
