Checking network connectivity to target servers

Symptoms

  • Cannot connect to the network
  • Host could not be reached using PING on the resolved IP

Resolution

Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.

  1. Perform a test connection. Right-click the target server from the Navigation pane. Click Utilities > Test Connection.
  2. Verify that all the required ports are open and available between the Collector and the target. For more information, see Correctly configuring firewalls for data collection (1002594) .
  3. Confirm host name and IP resolved matches the hostname listed in the Data Manager and the expected server. For more information, see Data collection fails with the message "Host could not be reached using PING on the resolved IP" (2451668).
  4. If you are still unable to connect, ensure that the server type record in the Data Manager is set correctly.
    1. Right-click the target server from the Navigation pane.
    2. Click Edit.
    3. Change the setting to either Microsoft Windows Server or Unix/Linux System, depending on its current setting and run the Test Connection utility again.
