Troubleshooting a VMware Infrastructure Client Administration console that shows Evaluation after Commercial Licenses are installed

Symptoms

  • VMware Infrastructure Client Administration console is showing evaluation mode
  • Installed commercial licenses but still shows evaluation
  • Disabled evaluation under configuration but still shows evaluation on the VMware Infrastructure Client Administration console

Purpose

This article guides you through troubleshooting steps to identify completely disabling evaluation mode on ESX hosts and VirtualCenter server.

Resolution

The below listed steps will provide instructions or links to documents to eliminate possible causes and take corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution.

  1. Ensure evaluation mode is fully disabled on the ESX server and VirtualCenter Server. For more information, see Disabling VMware ESX 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5 Evaluation (1005623) .
  2. Verify licenses are activated according to the current need. For more information, see ESX 3.x Server and vCenter 2.x Editions (1005153) .
  3. Ensure licenses are uploaded correctly. For more information, see Installing ESX Server Licenses (1001383).
