Finding your VMware licenses on the Account Management Portal

Purpose

This article provides information about locating VMware licenses on the Account Management Portal.

Resolution

 
VMware product licenses can be found under the License Keys Portal, VI3 License Portal, or Serial Number Lookup Portal depending upon the product.

Note: You must be the Primary License Administrator or the Secondary License Administrator to view licenses for datacenter products. If you are the Support Administrator, you cannot manage licenses, however you can file a support request.

Locating vSphere Licenses

To locate Product License Keys, including vSphere licenses:
  1. Go to the Account Management Portal. You can manually browse to this page by going to www.vmware.com and clicking My Account.
  2. Enter your email address or customer number and password
  3. From the Login to dropdown, choose Manage Product Licenses as the destination and VMware vSphere 5 as the product.

    Note: You may choose a different product if you prefer.

  4. Click Login.
Under the License Key Portal you can locate and manage licenses such as:
  • vSphere 4.x  Enterprise/Enterprise Plus/Standard/Advanced/Essentials/Essentials Plus
  • vSphere 5.0  Enterprise/Enterprise Plus/Standard/Essentials/Essentials Plus
  • vSphere vCenter Server 4.x Standard/Foundation
  • vSphere vCenter Server 5.0 Standard/Foundation
  • vCenter Lab Manager 4
  • Workstation 7.x and 8.x 
  • Fusion 3.x and 4.x 
  • Thinapp 4.5
  • vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4.x
  • vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.0
  • vCenter AppSpeed
  • vCenter Capacity IQ
  • vCenter Chargeback
  • vCenter Lifecycle Manager
  • VMware vFabric Hyperic
  • VMware vFabric tc Server
  • VMware vFabric Enterprise Ready Server
  • VMware vFabric GemFire
Notes:
  • If you want to switch over to the VI3 Portal or the Find serial number option, click VI3 Licenses for managing your VI3 licenses and Serial # Lookup for the Find serial number option.
  • If you combine or divide a license key, a new license key is generated and the old license key is annulled.
These cannot be viewed under Product License Keys:
  • Evaluation license keys and license keys for vSphere Hypervisor (free version)
  • VMware View 3
  • VMware ACE
  • License keys for older products such as VMware Workstation 5 and 6, Fusion 1 and 2, and GSX Server.
Serial Number Lookup

The products mentioned above can be viewed in the Serial Number Lookup page. To go to the Serial Number Lookup page:
  1. Go to the Account Management Portal. You can manually browse to this page by going to www.vmware.com and clicking My Account.
  2. Enter your email address or customer number and password.
  3. From the Login to dropdown menu, choose Find serial number as the destination.
  4. Click Login.

    Note: If you see a screen that provides your Customer Number, take note of the number and click Continue.

    A serial number look up page displays.

  5. If appropriate, enter a date range.
  6. To view evaluation licenses, choose Eval/Beta Registered from the Category dropdown. To view your purchased and registered products, choose Purchased/Registered from the Category dropdown.
  7. Click Search.

    Your results display. You can sort results by:
    • License Type then Issue Date
    • Product then License Type
    • Issue date
Locating VMware Infrastructure 3 Licenses

To locate VMware Infrastructure 3 licenses:
  1. Go to the Account Management Portal. You can manually browse to this page by going to www.vmware.com and clicking My Account.
  2. Enter your email address or customer number and password.
  3. From the Login to dropdown, choose Manage Product Licenses as the destination and VMware Infrastructure 3 as the product.
  4. Click Login.
Under the VMware Infrastructure 3 portal, you can locate and manage licenses such as:
  • VMware Site Recovery Manager 1.x
  • VMware Infrastructure 3 Enterprise / Enterprise (VDI) / Standard / Foundation
  • VMware Lab Manager 2.0
  • VMware Converter 3.0 Enterprise
  • VMware vCenter Server 2.x / Foundation
Note: If you want to switch over to the License Key Portal or the find serial number page, on the top right corner, click License keys. for managing your Product licenses including vSphere licenses and 'Serial # Lookup' for the Find serial number page

To locate your vSphere Hypervisor key (free version), click here. Log in, if you have already registered, to locate your key and also download the software. If you have not registered yet, register with VMware by entering your first and last name and also your email address. You receive an email with a link for activating your ESXi key.
