Setting the ESX Server Edition while licensing the ESX host

Purpose

This article guides you through setting the ESX Server Edition.

Resolution

If the ESX Server License Type is set to Unlicensed:
  1. Log into the VMware Infrastructure Client and select that particular ESX Server host.
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. Select Licensed Features.
  4. Set ESX Server Edition to ESX Server Standard.

Note: If ESX Server Standard is not an available option:

  1. Ensure that there are sufficient licenses available. For more information, see Not enough licenses installed (1005265).
  2. Ensure that the license server is running. Click Start > Run, type Services.msc and click OK. If the license server is running, perform the steps in Installing ESX Server Licenses (1001383).

Update History
