Setting the ESX Server Edition while licensing the ESX host

This article guides you through setting the ESX Server Edition.

If the ESX Server License Type is set to Unlicensed:

Log into the VMware Infrastructure Client and select that particular ESX Server host.
Click the Configuration tab.
Select Licensed Features.
Set ESX Server Edition to ESX Server Standard.

Note: If ESX Server Standard is not an available option:

Ensure that there are sufficient licenses available. For more information, see Not enough licenses installed (1005265).
Ensure that the license server is running. Click Start > Run, type Services.msc and click OK. If the license server is running, perform the steps in Installing ESX Server Licenses (1001383).
