Customization of a Template never runs after deployment (1005067)
Symptoms
The virtual machine is deployed and booted, but sysprep never runs when deployed from Template with Customization
There are sysprep files in the root of the drive
The Template deploys successfully, the correct version of sysprep is in use, and no error messages are generated
No customization occurs
Resolution
This behavior may occur if a system security application is installed and protecting the system. These applications protect the system by preventing other applications from performing activities that it thinks may compromise the system's integrity or are not performed in the daily use of the system. This can include preventing the VMware Tools from initiating a sysprep installation. Often these activities are blocked silently.
To resolve this issue:
Before converting a virtual machine to a Template, disable or uninstall the system security application from the virtual machine.
Deploy the Template.
Enable or install the system security application in the virtual machine deployed from the Template.
This issue is resolved in VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 6 and vCenter 4.0 Update 1.
