Unable to enable Update Manager plug-in

Details

Consider the following scenarios:
 
The Update Manager plug-in is installed successfully. However, the plug-in client does not appear in the Installed tab of the Plugin Manager.
 
The Update Manager plug-in is installed successfully. However, when you enable the plug-in, the VI Client displays The server took too long to respond or a similar error message.
 
 

Solution

To work around the issues above, perform these steps:
 
  1. Uninstall the VI Client and Update Manager Client using Windows Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
  2. Manually remove the C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher folder.
  3. Reinstall the VI Client and Update Manager Client.
 
The Update Manager Client should now appear in the list of installed plug-ins in the Plugin Manager window and can be enabled successfully.
