VMware HA configuration fails with a VMWareClusterManager Rule not enabled error
Symptoms
- Cannot enable VMware High Availability
- VMware High Availability fails
- The following error is generated:
VMware HA agent has an error: VMWareClusterManager Rule not enabled
Resolution
Ensure the following is correctly configured:

Verify name resolution. For more information, see Identifying issues with and setting up name resolution on ESX Server (1003735).

Ensure the date and time are correct. For more information, see Verifying time synchronization across environment (1003736).

Ensure the system is not running short on console memory and system is not swapping. For more information, see Checking for resource starvation of the ESX Server service console (1003496).

Perform the following:

On each host, remove the /etc/FT_HOST file using the command:
rm /etc/FT_HOST

Disable VMware HA at the cluster level and re-enable it again.

Log in to the Virtual Infrastructure Client

Right-click the Cluster and choose Edit Settings.

Deselect Enable VMware HA.

Click OK.
-
Right-click the Cluster and select Edit Settings.

Select Enable VMware HA.
-
Click OK.
