Automatic Tools Upgrade Requires Virtual Machine Reboot for IP Address and DNS Entries to Appear in Virtual Machine Summary Tab (1004487)

Details

Performing the VMware Tools Automatic Upgrade on Linux virtual machines that have been migrated in a powered off state from ESX Server 3.0.x or ESX Server 3.5 to ESX Server 3.5 Update 1 might cause the virtual machine to lose the IP address and DNS entries in the Summary tab. This operation also changes the VMware Tools status from out of date to not running. It should be displayed as OK.

Solution

You need to reboot the virtual machine to get the correct entries for these parameters.
