Cold Migration From ESX Server 3.0.x Host to ESX Server 3.5.x Host Fails for Virtual Machines with Memory Snapshot (1004418)

Details

Cold migration of virtual machines with memory snapshots might fail from ESX Server 3.0.x hosts to ESX Server 3.5.x hosts with a warning message similar to the following:

A file was not found

Solution

This is a known issue when the destination ESX Server host is running ESX Server 3.5.x, ESX Server 3i version 3.5.x Embedded, or ESX Server 3i version 3.5.x Installable.
 
To fix this problem, perform the following activities:
  1. Commit or discard the memory snapshot of the virtual machine.
  2. Power on the virtual machine and migrate it using VMware VMotion, or power off the virtual machine and cold migrate.
