VI Client Does Not Prompt for Downloading Client Update (1004396)
Details
When connecting to ESX Server 3.5 Update 1 or ESX Server 3.5i Update 1 hosts using VI Client 2.0.x, if you provide the short name of the ESX Server host, the VI Client connects to the host, but does not prompt to download the client update.
Solution
This is a known issue. VMware recommends that you either use the IP address or the fully qualified host name when connecting to ESX Server hosts using the VI Client.
