Patch Installation Might Require Obsolete Bundles to be Included in the Patch Depot (1004363)

Details

If you do not install patches in chronological order, the installation might fail if ESX Server 3.5 Update 1 patches are already installed on the system. An error message similar to the following will be displayed:

ERROR: [ESX350-2008023XX-XX] requires ['ESX350-200802403-BG'] but these bundles cannot be found. Please make sure they are in the depot and specified in the bundle list.

Note: This issue will not occur if patches are installed in chronological order. This issue will not occur if Update Manager is used for ESX Server host patch remediation.

Solution

To work around this issue, make sure the patch bundle ESX350-200802403-BG is placed in the patch depot. You can download the patch bundle from http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/vi3_patches_35.html. For instructions on how to use depots, please refer to the ESX Server 3 Patch Management Guide.
