Benign Warning Message for Freshly Installed or Upgraded ESX Server 3.5 or Later Host (1004323)

Details

On a freshly installed or upgraded ESX Server 3.5 or later host, a warning message similar to the following example is logged in /var/log/boot.log and /var/log/messages :

Feb 20 23:38:55 pdp-blr134 esxcfg-vswif: Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.21-47.0.1.ELvmnix/misc/vmxnet_console.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license – proprietary

Solution

This warning message is benign and can be safely ignored.
