Deploying Virtual Machine from a Template Fails with a No Permission Error (1004295)

Details

In VirtualCenter 2.0.2, a user with just the basic permissions to deploy a virtual machine can successfully deploy a virtual machine from a template. In VirtualCenter 2.5, however, this user with the same set of permissions is unable to deploy a virtual machine using the same template. The Deploy wizard fails with the following error:

Exception of type ‘Vmomi.Fault.NoPermission’ was thrown.

Solution

This error occurs in VirtualCenter 2.5 due to the introduction of certain validation tests in the Clone and Deploy wizards. A user who can successfully deploy a virtual machine in VirtualCenter 2.0.2 cannot do the same in VirtualCenter 2.5.

This issue is resolved in VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 1 and later. VirtualCenter software is available from the VMware Download Center.

Additional information regarding permissions is available from Managing VMware VirtualCenter Roles and Permissions and VI3 Roles and Permissions.
