The Power On Task Scheduled on Virtual Machines Fails After Migration (1004091)
Details
If a Power On task is scheduled on a virtual machine that has been migrated to another ESX Server host, the task fails to execute. An error message similar to the following appears:
A specified parameter was not correct.
Solution
Starting with VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 1, a Power On task scheduled with default settings on a virtual machine is successful, irrespective of the ESX Server host the virtual machine resides on.
A Select Host Option check box that is unselected by default, is added on the Select Power Operation page in the Scheduled Task wizard.
If the Select Host Option check box remains unselected, a task scheduled to power on a virtual machine is successful even if the virtual machine has been migrated to another ESX Server host.
If the Select Host Option check box is selected, a Power On task scheduled on a virtual machine attempts to power on the virtual machine on the selected host. In this case, the Power On task may fail if the virtual machine has migrated to another ESX Server host.
