ESX Server installer does not create VMFS and vmkcore partitions correctly (1004075)
Details
In a typical ESX Server installation, if the Keep virtual machines and the VMFS (virtual machine file system) that contain them check box is selected and the ESX Server installer detects a prior installation, these issues occur:
-
If a VMFS partition does not exist and a vmkcore partition is detected, the ESX Server installer does not create the VMFS partition.
-
If a vmkcore partition does not exist and a VMFS partition is detected, the ESX Server installer does not create the vmkcore partition.
Solution
Starting with ESX Server 3.5 Update 1, the ESX Server installer checks for vmfs and vmkcore partitions separately. The ESX Server installer creates a vmfs partition when a vmfs partition is not detected, and a vmkcore partition when a vmkcore partition is not detected.
