Unable to vMotion or power on a 64-bit virtual machine
Symptoms

The 64-bit virtual machine fails before completing the power on operation.

You cannot power on a 64-bit virtual machine in vCenter Server.

You messages similar to:
Host CPU is incompatible with the virtual machine's requirements at CPUID level 0x800000001 register "edx".

Mismatch detected for these features:
* Longmode, required when a virtual machine is configured for a 64-bit guest OS -
You see log events in the virtual machine Events tab and vmware-#.log similar to:
[msg.monitorInit.vmm64.initHost.VTDisabled] This CPU is VT-capable, but VT is not enabled (check your BIOS/firmware settings).
vmx| [msg.cpuid.noLongmode] You have configured this virtual machine as a 64-bit guest operating system. However, this host's CPU is not capable of running 64-bit virtual machines or this virtual machine has 64-bit support disabled.

You see messages similar to:
This CPU is VT-capable, but VT is not enabled
Purpose
This article provides the troubleshooting steps to follow when you encounter vMotion or power on issues for 64-bit virtual machines.
Resolution
Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. Each step provides instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.
To troubleshoot this issue:- Ensure that your hardware is 64-bit compatible. For more information, see Hardware and Firmware Requirements for 64-bit Guest Operating Systems (1003945).
- Check if the physical processors on the source and destination are compatible. For more information, see:
- Make sure that VT support is enabled in the BIOS of the ESX/ESXi host. For more information, see Ensuring Virtualization Technology is enabled on your VMware host (1003944).
