Troubleshooting Migration compatibility error: Unable to migrate: Insufficient memory resources
Symptoms
-
When performing a VMotion migration the following compatibility warning is displayed:
Unable to migrate from <source server> to <destination server> and pool <Resource Pool>: Insufficient memory resources .
Resolution
Overview
This unable to migrate error message occurs if you try to move a machine into a resource pool that does not have enough memory resources assigned.
If there are sufficient resources, large reservations on the virtual machine may also produce the error message.
Workaround
To workaround this issue, perform one of the following:
-
Assign more resources to the resource pool and then attempt the migration again.
-
Reduce any reservations assigned to the virtual machine so that there are enough free resources for the virtual machine. Attempt the migration again when this is done.
-
Modify the resource pool to use an expandable reservation. Attempt the migration again when this is done.
