Troubleshooting Migration compatibility error: Currently connected network interface uses network, which is not accessible

Symptoms


  • When performing a VMotion migration the following compatibility error is displayed:

    Unable to migrate from <source server> to <destination server>: Currently connected network interface '<device>' uses network '<network>', which is not accessible .

Resolution

Overview

This unable to migrate error indicates that the network the virtual machine is connected to is not available on the destination server. 
 
The compatibility check only looks at the names of the virtual machine network portgroups and does not check actual network connectivity. 
 

Workaround

To workaround this issue, ensure that the virtual machine network portgroups are named the same across all of the ESX Servers that participate in VMotion.
