Unexpected Restarts of Virtual Machines on ESX Server 3.0.1 Might Occur When Upgrading to VirtualCenter 2.5 or When Adding ESX Server 3.0.1 to VirtualCenter 2.5 (1003401)
Details
This issue relates to ESX Server 3.0.1 without patch ESX-7557441.
The following circumstances restart the ESX Server host agent and might cause virtual machines that are set to change power state under Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown on ESX Server 3.0.1 without patch ESX-7557441 to restart unexpectedly.

At the conclusion of the VirtualCenter 2.5 upgrade, updates are made to all connected ESX Server hosts and the ESX Server host agent is restarted automatically.
- When an ESX Server host is added to VirtualCenter 2.5 for the first time, updates are made and the ESX Server host agent is restarted automatically.
Solution
This issue relates to "ESX Server 3.0.1, Patch ESX-7557441: Unexpected Reboot of Virtual Machines Configured to Automatically Start or Stop." For details, see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/7557441.
For ESX Server 3.0.1, VirtualCenter 2.5 requires Patches ESX-1002083, ESX-1002085, and ESX-7557441, as indicated in the VMware Infrastructure Compatibility Matrixes at http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vi_pages/vi_pubs_35.html.
