When You Edit a Virtual Machine During a Cloning Operation, Validity Checking Does Not Work (1003097)

Details

The software erroneously allows you to create a virtual machine where the total number of PCI devices (for example, NICs, SCSI controllers, the paravirtualization support ROM, and the USB controller) exceeds the supported maximum. Such a virtual machine generates an error message when you attempt to power it on.

Solution

When you are editing a virtual machine during a cloning operation (or a template deploy operation), make sure the total number of PCI devices does not exceed six (including the implicit video card). Options that can cause the number of PCI devices to increase include enabling paravirtualization, adding new NICs, or adding or changing disks such that an added SCSI controller is required.
