Incorrect device paths for LUNs displayed in Storage Summary (1003064)
Details
The VirtualCenter Storage summary may display incorrect device path or no information for LUNs that are connected to two or more ESX hosts. For such a LUN, no information is displayed in the Extent and Extend Device sections of the the Properties dialog. If you click the Manage Paths button, the following error message appears:
InvalidArguement=Value of '0' is not valid for 'index'. Parameter name: index
In addition, when two or more ESX hosts access shared LUNs by using different device path numbers for host bus adapters (HBAs), the displayed properties of the shared LUNs for any of the ESX hosts might be incorrect. However, this issue does not exist when ESX hosts use the same device path number for HBAs to access shared LUNs.
Note: This issue only occurs when accessing the storage properties of a host through VirtualCenter but it does not indicate or imply a stability issue on the ESX host itself.
Solution
This issue is resolved in VMware vCenter 2.5 Update 4. This release improves the accuracy of the storage information displayed. Changes were made specifically to VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client, so after upgrading the VMware vCenter server, you must uninstall and reinstall the version of VI Client which came with the VMware vCenter upgrade. For more information, see Resolved Storage Issues in the VMware VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 4 Release Notes.
You can work around this issue by performing a Storage Adapter rescan in VirtualCenter. If the issue persists, restart the VirtualCenter Server service. For more information, see Stopping, starting, or restarting vCenter services (1003895).
