Automatic VMware Tools Upgrade Does Not Upgrade to the Latest Version on Virtual Machines With Insufficient Space in the Root Partition (1003051)

Details

If a virtual machine has less than 500MB in its root partition (boot partition for virtual machines with Windows guest operating systems), then the automatic VMware Tools upgrade for that virtual machine fails. VirtualCenter does not report an error message for this upgrade failure.

Solution

Free up space in the system root partition of the virtual machine (more than 500MB) and allow the automatic VMware Tools upgrade to function as scheduled. Alternatively, perform a manual VMware Tools upgrade.
