Presence of a Removable Storage Device Might Prevent Converter from Successfully Converting a Physical Machine to an ESX Server Virtual Machine
Details
Because of an inability to differentiate between some forms of removable storage and fixed storage, the need for storage space might appear much higher than it actually is for physical systems using removable storage devices. In this case, guided consolidation might fail to recommend any destination host for a candidate physical system unless there is a destination host capable of accommodating all storage, including the removable device.
Solution
Remove any removable storage devices from the physical machine and wait 24 hours or set the credentials for the system to refresh the inventory before conversion. Setting the credentials with the same information that you have been using will still refresh the inventory.
To set credentials for the system:
In VMware Converter, navigate to the Analysis tab.
Right-click the system that you want to modify.
Select Set Authentication from the drop-down menu.
