Storage Devices Connected to McData FC Switch Through QLogic Adapters Occasionally Do Not Reappear After Reboot (1003040)

Details

If you are working with an ESX Server host that uses QLogic HBAs connected to storage endpoints via a McData Fibre Channel switch, SCSI devices are sometimes no longer visible after reboot.

Solution

In a VI Client connected to the ESX Server host, follow these steps:

1. Select the host in the inventory panel and click the Configuration tab.
2. Click Storage Adapters in the Hardware panel and select the adapter.
3. Click Rescan.

You can also use this procedure from a VI Client connected to a VirtualCenter Server that manages the host in question.
If the problem occurs on an ESX Server 3i host, you can also use the Remote CLI as follows:

vicfg-mpath --rescan <adapter>
