Concurrent Cloning of Virtual Machines Using A Single Template With Guest Customization Fails (1002584)

Details

Concurrent cloning of virtual machines using a single template that has guest customization fails and throws the following error:

A general system error occurred: unexpected customization error

This issue arises with both the Virtual Infrastructure Client and the cloneVM API, if you use a single template with guest customization.

Solution

This is a limitation in VirtualCenter 2.0.x. There is no workaround for this issue.

If you are using a template with guest customization, you can create only one virtual machine at a time. You can, however, create multiple virtual machines provided the template does not have any guest customization.

This issue is resolved in the Vitrual Center 2.5 Update 1 release.

Keywords

cloneVM API, concurrent cloneVM tasks, template, guest customization
