ESX Server requires two rescans to detect all available paths to virtualized storage from Hitach Data Systems NSC/USP arrays

Details

When virtualized LUN(LDEV) is presented from an HDS (Hitachi Data Systems) NSC/USP array to ESX Server host, not all available paths are detected from the first rescan.

Solution

To detect all available paths to virtualized storage, perform rescan twice in each ESX host. 
 
This is required whenever new virtualized storage is provisioned to ESX Server host.
