"Please insert the Disk:1" Alert Dialog Box Appears when Upgrading VirtualCenter 2.0.x & VirtualCenter 2.5.x to the latest version
Details
When you upgrade VirtualCenter 2.0.x and VirtualCenter 2.5.x to the latest version using the ISO image, the following message might appear in an alert dialog box:
Please insert the Disk: 1
If you click OK, the message reappears. If you click Cancel, the installation rolls back to where the upgrade fails.
Solution
You will only encounter this error when the first install was done from disk and you are attempting to upgrade with the ISO.
The problem lies with a left over entry in your windows registry that causes the ISO install to fail.
Using the preISOConfig exectuable as detailed in solution one will resolve this, alternatively use solution two.
Solution 1: - Using the ISO/CD-Rom to complete the installation.
To successfully upgrade to VirtualCenter 2.0.2 using the ISO/CD-ROM, please run VirtualCenter-preISOConfig.exe (located below) before attempting or re-attempting the upgrade.
Note: This file should be run as a user with administrative privileges.
Solution 2: - Using the VirtualCenter Install executable.
Install the patch via the VMware-vpx-2.x.x-xxxxx.zip file which can be downloaded from www.vmware.com/download
