New VMFS Volumes Exposed to the VCB Proxy Requires Rescan (1001587)
Details
When new LUNs with VMFS volumes are exposed to the VCB proxy, you might see one of the following errors:
- Error: Disk library failed (One LUN could not be opened)
- Vmount2.Vmount2Service: Cannot open disk file: Error : Disk library failed (Cannot access a SAN/iSCSI LUN backing this virtual disk. (Hint: If you are using vcbMounter you can use the option "-m ndb" to switch to network based disk access if this is what you want.)
The error occurs when the vmount2 service, which mounts the virtual machines for file-level backups, is unable to see the new LUNs. Any change in the SAN topology (for example, introducing a new VMFS partition) requires a SAN rescan and the stopping of vmount2.
Solution
To work around this issue, rescan for disks using the Windows Disk Manager and then stop the vmount2 service (it automatically restarts the next time it is needed).
To stop this service, use one of the following methods:
-
From the command line, type:
net stop vmount2 -
Through the Windows Services and Applications option: Right click My Computer and select Manage. Then, expand Services and Applications and click Services to view the list of services installed on your system. Locate the VMware Virtual Mount Manager Extended service and right-click to Stop the service.
