Solution

This is a known issue with VMware Converter 3.0.0 to 3.0.3. VMware is currently working on a permanent resolution to this issue.

To work around the problem:
  1. Use a disk imaging tool to clone the source into an image file.
  2. Create a new virtual machine.
  3. Use the disk imaging tool inside the virtual machine to restore the disk image back onto the virtual hard disk.
  4. Open VMware Converter and choose Reconfigure.
  5. Reconfigure the newly created virtual machine to make it startable as a virtual machine.
