Restore Fails When Backup Client Agents Are Configured With Hostnames (1001300)

Details

Backup agents of CommVault 6.1 SP4 and EMC Legato Networker Jumbo Update 1 might fail to restore, if the client agents are configured with hostnames in Windows Virtual Machine/Console Operating System.

During the restore process

  • On CommVault 6.1 SP4, error messages similar to the following are displayed:

"MediaAgent [hostname] failed to connect back to CommCilent[hostname]. Please check the network connectivity between the client and MediaAgent, and verify that the MediaAgent's name resolution for the client's host name".

"One or more archive files could not be found. Archive files may have been pruned. The restore results will not be complete".

"Phase[restore], for job[Job number] will be restarted"

Restore then moves to pending state. After a while the restore process restarts and the errors are repeated.

  • On EMC Legato Networker Jumbo Update 1, the failure message would be similar to:

recover: recover of rsid 21238 failed: recover: Connection refused”.

Solution

This is not an ESX Server issue.

As a workaround, configure client agents with IP addresses.
