Guest operating system information is incorrect in VMware Infrastructure Client (1000651)

Details

After installing VMware Tools, the guest operating system information is incorrect on the virtual machine summary page in VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client. The following guest operating systems' display incorrectly:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 displays as "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2"
  • Microsoft Windows Vista (64bit) displays as "Microsoft Windows NT 4"
  • Suse Linux Enterprise Server (64bit) displays as "Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9"

Solution

The virtual machine summary page in VI Client displays the correct guest operating system information in ESX 3.0.2.
 
To resolve this issue, upgrade to ESX 3.0.2 or higher.
