Reading Files from DVD Optical Drives Seems to Consume an Unusual Amount of Time on HP ProLiant DL380 G4 Servers with ESX Server 2.5.3
Details
For example, copying a 600MB file takes 2.5 hours to complete, but this process should take only 20 minutes.
Does reading from a DVD-ROM drive on a ProLiant DL380 G4 server with ESX Server take a very long time to complete?
Solution
Sometimes this process will take a long time to complete. Workarounds include:
-
Download the firmware update from HP for Teac OEM DVD-ROM Drive and DVD/CD-RW ROM Combo Drives Firmware Version C.6c,K.ac,C.ac. These are available at http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/27372.html .
-
Upgrade to Virtual Infrastructure 3. ESX Server 3.x does not display this problem.
