64-Bit Virtual Machine Will Not Power On or Reports OS Not Found on ESX Server
Details
I am trying to create a 64-bit virtual machine on ESX Server. Powering on the virtual machine results in one of the following errors:
The cpu of the host is incompatible with the cpu feature requirement of the virtual machine; problem detected at cpu id level 0x80000001 regsiter edx.
Operating system not found.
Solution
64-bit guests running on Intel hardware require Intel VT (Virtualization Technology) to function.
If the processor is VT-capable, but the guest still does not start, VT must be enabled in the BIOS of the ESX Server host. The location in the BIOS may vary. Some examples of where to look for the VT option include:
-
Security Options menu
-
OS Security
-
Enable VT or Virtualization Technology
