Apache Server Fails to Restart Requested by ACE Management Server Configuration Application

Details

On SLES 9 SP3, under specific circumstances, the Apache server fails to restart completely when a restart is requested by the ACE Management Server configuration application.

Solution

The incomplete restart causes the configuration application and the ACE Management Server to stop responding to client requests. To find out whether this situation has occurred, make sure the HTTPD process is running. Enter ps -ef | grep httpd a moment after a restart request.

The workaround is to restart the process manually from the command line. For example, enter the command /etc/init.d/apache2 start .
