Cannot Connect to Remote Client (CD-ROM or Floppy) from the Devices Tab of VMware Tools

Details

You can disconnect a remote client device (CD-ROM or floppy) from an ESX Server host from the VI Client or from the Devices tab of VMware Tools running on the virtual machine.
 
However, you cannot connect to a remote device from the Devices tab of VMware Tools because the virtual machine is not aware of the remote client device.

Solution

Use the VI Client to connect a remote device to the ESX Server host.
