My Computer Does Not Hibernate and I Receive the Error Message, "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API"
Details
I am using a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. When I try to put the computer into hibernation, the computer sometimes does not hibernate. When this problem occurs, I receive the error message, Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API.
The hibernate feature is not available until I restart the computer. This problem typically occurs when the computer uses 1GB or more of RAM.
Solution
This problem occurs because the Windows kernel power manager cannot obtain the memory resources that are required to allow the computer to hibernate. Running virtual machines puts high stress on Windows memory management, causing this bug to appear.
Install the Windows update available at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/909095/.
