Purpose

This article provides information on vCenter Protect Essentials and Essentials Plus and its licensing and pricing.

Resolution

What is vCenter Protect Essentials and Essentials Plus?

VMware vCenter Protect Essentials provides centralized patch management and asset inventory for SMBs and departmental needs. vCenter Protect Essentials Plus adds antivirus, power management, IT Scripts, and configuration management for both virtual and legacy physical systems in an integrated solution. This includes centralized management for Windows operating systems and the most widely used Windows-hosted applications running on both virtual and physical servers and workstations.

How does VMware license and price the offering?

VMware licenses and packages the products per Managed System. Technically, the product is keyed to a machine name and Windows operating system, which could be a Windows Server or Workstation operating system, both physical and virtual. This is a key distinction and differentiator from our competitors as they only manage physical workstations.
