VirtualCenter Crashes When User Name Entry Contains a Space

Details

Why did my VirtualCenter crash when I entered a space in the user name field?

Solution

If there is a space as an entry for a user of a group, VirtualCenter crashes with a core dump when it loads the information using NIS+. An error appears in the ESX Server management interface.

To work around this problem, remove any user names that consist only of a space, or remove the space from the user name entry in the group file. This file is typically /etc/group.

To correct this, upgrade to VirtualCenter 1.3 or later.
