This is a known issue that has been seen on systems on which Norton AntiVirus 2005 is installed. Depending upon the version of Windows the system is running, the problem occurs with one of two Windows Management Instrumentation processes, either winmgmt.exe or wmiprvse.exe.

You can work around this issue. After installing Norton AntiVirus 2005, you can uninstall the Norton WMI Update component. Complete the following steps:
Note: Norton AntiVirus continues to work after you uninstall either or both update applications. However, to update your virus definition files or the application itself, you need to reinstall them.
This issue has not been seen with Norton AntiVirus 2001 through 2004, Norton AntiVirus 2006 Beta, or Symantec AntiVirus.
