When an end user installs an upgrade package that includes a replacement virtual machine -? a new copy of a virtual machine that is already installed on the end user's computer ?- an error messages appears when the installer detects the .vmss file that stores the suspended state of the virtual machine. The .vmss file is created when the end user shuts down the VMware ACE application.
The error message reports, "An error occurred while preparing a newly installed VM for use. The VM may not be usable. Please contact your administrator." The end user should click OK to continue.
A second error message appears when the user attempts to launch the ACE application. That message begins with "A file encapsulating the state of a virtual machine was discovered." It lists the full path to the .vmss file and offers the user a choice of discarding the file or canceling the operation. The end user should click Discard to discard the old .vmss file and run the VMware ACE application.
