A "General fault caused by file" error message is generated when a "Insufficient space for provisioning operation" error message should be generated.

Details

Provisioning fails because there is no disk space left on the LUN. However, the error message on the VDM dashboard says "General fault caused by file..." instead of "Insufficient space for provisioning operation..."
 

Solution

This error message may be misleading and is a known issue with Virtual Center 2.5.  Free disk space or provide additional datastores to avoid encountering this message.  This issue will be addressed in a future Virtual Center 2.5 release
