Cold Migration From ESX Server 3.0.x Host to ESX Server 3.5.x Host Fails for Suspended Virtual Machines
Details
Cold migration of suspended virtual machines fails from an ESX Server 3.0.x host to an ESX Server 3.5.x host with a message similar to the following:
The default device 'keyboard' is configured with settings which are incompatible with the default settings on the target host.
Solution
This is a known issue when the destination ESX Server host is running ESX Server 3.5.x, ESX Server 3i version 3.5.x Embedded, or ESX Server 3i version 3.5.x Installable.
To fix this problem, you can perform any one of the following activities:
Power on the virtual machine and migrate it using VMware VMotion.
Power on the virtual machine, and then power off and cold migrate it.
