Summary

This patch provides the following VMware WebCenter updates:
  • Tomcat Server Security Update: This release of the WebCenter RPM updates the Tomcat Server package from 5.5.17 to 5.5.25, which addresses multiple security issues. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the names CVE-2005-2090 , CVE-2006-7195 , and CVE-2007-0450 to these issues.
  • JRE security update: This release of WebCenter RPM updates the JRE package from 1.5.0_7 to 1.5.0_12, which addresses a security issue that existed in the earlier release of JRE. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2007-3004 to this issue.
  • Web Access support for Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4.

Solution

Note: Before you begin please refer to KB1003490 for important information on restarting the mgmt-vmware service.

Symptoms

The following symptom might be seen in systems without this patch:

When connecting to the ESX Server host using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4, a browser not supported error message might be displayed.

Deployment Considerations

1. Stop the hostd and Tomcat services using the following commands:

service mgmt-vmware stop
service vmware-webAccess stop
 
2. Install the hostd and WebCenter RPMs.
3. Start the hostd and Tomcat services using the following commands:

service mgmt-vmware start
service vmware-webAccess start

Download Instructions

Download and verify the patch bundle as follows:

1. Download patch ESX-1003176 from http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/vi3_patches.html .

2. Log in to the ESX Server service console as root.

3. Create a local depot directory.

# mkdir -p /var/updates

Note: VMware recommends that you use the updates directory.

4. Change your working directory to /var/updates .

# cd /var/updates

5. Download the tar file into the /var/updates directory.

6. Verify the integrity of the downloaded tar file:

# md5sum ESX-1003176.tgz

The md5 checksum output should match the following:

5674ca0dcfac90726014cc316444996e ESX-1003176.tgz

7. Extract the compressed tar archive:

# tar -xvzf ESX-1003176.tgz

8. Change to the newly created directory, /var/updates/ESX-1003176 :

# cd ESX-1003176

Installation Instructions

After you download and extract the archive, and if you are in the directory that you previously created, use the following command to install the update:

# esxupdate update

To run esxupdate from a different directory, you must specify the bundle path in the command:

# esxupdate -r file://<directory>/ESX-1003176 update

For example, if the host is called depot:

# esxupdate -r file:///depot/var/updates/ESX-1003176 update

During the update process, logs appear on the terminal. You can specify the verbosity of esxupdate logs by using the -v option as shown below.

# esxupdate -v 10 file://<directory>/ESX-1003176 update
