VirtualCenter Server Might Crash in a Cluster with Manual or Partially Automatic DRS and Automatic DPM

Details

In a cluster configured with manual or partially automatic DRS and fully automated DPM, when a recommendation that has a host power action and a corresponding virtual machine power on action to be displayed, the VirtualCenter Server might crash.

For example, when a user attempts to power on virtual machines that cannot be accomodated by the running hosts, DRS recommends powering on a host in standby mode as a prerequisite for powering on the virtual machines. This situation might cause the VirtualCenter Server to crash.

Solution

Restart the VirtualCenter Server.
