ESX Server 2.5.5: Unable to Boot IBM LS21 Blade into linux-up Mode

I'm trying to boot my IBM LS21 Blade into linux-up mode to perform maintenance or apply a patch, but it doesn't work.

How can I resolve this issue?

This issue arises because IBM LS21 Blade does not properly route interrupts from the LSISAS controller when it operates in PIC mode.

To work around this issue, boot into linux mode instead of linux-up mode.
