BIOS update may be required for Xeon 5400 and Xeon 5200

Details

VMware has received reports of PSOD on ESX Server versions 3.5 and 3.0.2 running on servers using Xeon 5400 or Xeon 5200 CPUs. These reports were attributed to MCE (Machine Check Exception).

Solution

This issue is not Operating System specific and appears to be rare at this time. Customers who believe they may be experiencing this issue should contact their system manufacturer for a BIOS update that addresses this issue.
